Introduction

The Environment and Ecology Bureau (EEB) has launched various initiatives to promote the public awareness of sustainable development, ranging from outreach participation, award recognition to ambassador nomination. With our concerted efforts, members of the public are encouraged to put sustainability into practice in their daily lives and build a sustainable society for the benefit of future generations.

Sustainable Development School Outreach Programme

EEB has cooperated with different dedicated organisations to promote the concept of sustainable development by implementing a series of activities such as seminars, workshops and field trips. Diversified emerging topics including energy efficiency, climate change and waste management are covered. Students are able to explore the implications of different environmental issues through cross-disciplinary learning.

Interactive Drama

Every year, a thematic drama performance will be conducted to convey the concept of sustainable development. Positive responses have been consistently received from students and teachers. In the 2023/2024 school year, the theme of the drama is “zero-carbon energy”, which introduces the development of such energy in Hong Kong. In addition to the superb acting skills of actors, an array of open-ended questions is also included in the interactive session to inspire thinking. The interactive drama suffices to integrate the knowledge of renewable energy into a vivid performance, enabling the audience to learn more about sustainable development in interesting and educational ways.

Theme song performance of “Let's Go! New Energy Warriors!”

Touring theatre performance of “Earth Resurrection War - New Energy Legend”

The thematic drama effectively conveyed the messages of zero-carbon energy and environmental protection. Students responded enthusiastically and actively participated in the interactive session.

Seminar

The seminar complements the school curriculum by provoking students to reflect on the correlation between environment, society and economy. The themes are so varied that students could know more about the environmental issues from different perspectives. The topical issues are presented with local and global examples, delivering the message of sustainable development in an impressive manner.

Field Trip

As the saying goes, “travelling brings about far greater benefit than mere book learning”. Embarking on the journey enables students to explore the application of sustainable development in daily lives under the guidance of educators. The field trips embrace inclusiveness and diversity by including a wide variety of exhibits from local places to polar regions, which are well worth seeing. Students not only can enrich their knowledge of global ecology, but also can deepen their understanding of nature and conservation in a diversified learning environment. This truly offers priceless learning opportunities for both primary and secondary students.
