Publicity and Community
Education Programmes
Introduction
The Environment and Ecology Bureau (EEB) has launched various initiatives to promote the public awareness of sustainable development, ranging from outreach participation, award recognition to ambassador nomination. With our concerted efforts, members of the public are encouraged to put sustainability into practice in their daily lives and build a sustainable society for the benefit of future generations.
Sustainable Development School Outreach Programme
EEB has cooperated with different dedicated organisations to promote the concept of sustainable development by implementing a series of activities such as seminars, workshops and field trips. Diversified emerging topics including energy efficiency, climate change and waste management are covered. Students are able to explore the implications of different environmental issues through cross-disciplinary learning.
Interactive Drama
Every year, a thematic drama performance will be conducted to convey the concept of sustainable development. Positive responses have been consistently received from students and teachers. In the 2023/2024 school year, the theme of the drama is “zero-carbon energy”, which introduces the development of such energy in Hong Kong. In addition to the superb acting skills of actors, an array of open-ended questions is also included in the interactive session to inspire thinking. The interactive drama suffices to integrate the knowledge of renewable energy into a vivid performance, enabling the audience to learn more about sustainable development in interesting and educational ways.
The thematic drama effectively conveyed the messages of zero-carbon energy and environmental protection. Students responded enthusiastically and actively participated in the interactive session.
Seminar
The seminar complements the school curriculum by provoking students to reflect on the correlation between environment, society and economy. The themes are so varied that students could know more about the environmental issues from different perspectives. The topical issues are presented with local and global examples, delivering the message of sustainable development in an impressive manner.

Field Trip
As the saying goes, “travelling brings about far greater benefit than mere book learning”. Embarking on the journey enables students to explore the application of sustainable development in daily lives under the guidance of educators. The field trips embrace inclusiveness and diversity by including a wide variety of exhibits from local places to polar regions, which are well worth seeing. Students not only can enrich their knowledge of global ecology, but also can deepen their understanding of nature and conservation in a diversified learning environment. This truly offers priceless learning opportunities for both primary and secondary students.

For the outdoor guidance mode, students will broaden their horizons through site visits or field trips by experiencing the techniques and measures of sustainable development.
Sustainable Development School Award Programme
This programme aims at encouraging initiatives by schools to promote and implement the sustainability practices in schools and the community, and to recognise their effort and contribution in this respect. Two categories of award are included in this programme, namely Sustainable Development Participation Award and Sustainable Development Community Project Award.
Sustainable Development Participation Award
Schools are encouraged to get students taken part in a variety of sustainability activities. This helps instill the environmental awareness into students, initiating them to spread the message of sustainable development to members of the community. Through participating in different green education activities, students realise the importance of sustainable development to individuals, society and the world, with hopes for achieving a sustainable living.

Sustainable Development Ambassador Programme
We wish to groom a group of ambassadors to serve as role models in putting sustainability into practices, assist schools in organising environmental activities, and help raise the public awareness of sustainable development.
Nomination Guidelines:
Participating schools of the Sustainable Community Project Award are eligible to nominate ten students who fulfill the following requirements to become Sustainable Development Ambassadors, while the three best outstanding Ambassadors could be further promoted as Sustainable Development Ambassador Leaders. The Ambassadors and Leaders will strive to participate and assist in various activities for the promotion of sustainable development.
- attend at least two education / training activities related to sustainable development; and
- assist schools in organising promotion activities related to sustainable development.
Our ambassadors spare no pains to promote the vision of sustainable development through participating and assisting in a wide range of school and community projects. Their contribution is highly appreciated. To provide tremendous support for the ambassadors, EEB regularly invite them to join in different activities related to sustainable development.
Ambassadors stepped up the hill and walked by the lake to understand varied designs and installations of the solar power system, gaining an in-depth understanding of renewable energy development projects in Hong Kong.
Ambassadors utilised their five senses to learn about the animal characteristics in different climates, discovering the beauty of biodiversity at close range.
